New features:
Direct creation of Dynamic Fonts without HTML files
A listbox displays all available fonts with Icons showing if the font is a Postscript or a TrueType font. A second listbox is used for gathering the fonts which should be turned to Dynamic Fonts. The user selects fonts in the listboxes and moves them with the Move buttons -- multiple selections are supported. If one or more fonts in the right listbox are selected, the user can click the Subset button to define which characters to burn -- see the next topic for more information on this.
The domain name is used for binding the Dynamic Font file to the site it should be served from (required by Bitstream, this DocLock technology protects Font manufacturers rights and dissallows other Web sites to use your fonts.).
When the user clicks the Burn button, a file selection box is opened to let the user choose a folder where to put the generated Dynamic Font files or to give a name to the common Dynamic Font file, if all fonts should be stored into one file: A checkbox on the dialog lets the user choose the export mode. When individual files are generated for each font, the common naming convention as in PostScript fonts is used: Font name plus extensions for italic, bold etc.
Individual Character Subsets
The user can choose which characters to burn individually for each font: For example the lower 128 characters of font Helvetica, all available characters of font Times plus the characters with ASCII code 165 and 198 of font Zapf Dingbats. The user reaches the dialog by clicking the Subset button on the above dialog: A list shows the characters of the selected font -- or the first selected font if more than one is selected -- and characters which should be used are marked with a hook.
The popup menu at the top of the dialog shows three predefined subsets Default, All and Lower 128 plus individual subsets generated by the user. The buttons on the dialog are used to handle these defined subsets. Clicking a font which is not marked with the option key held down, marks all fonts -- the mark of all fonts should be removed by an option click to a marked character.
Automatic handling of alternative font tags
The user can generate preferences to alternative fonts: When you generate dynamic fonts, only the first font of a FACE tag will be burned: (<FONT FACE="Helvetica, Arial">Test</FONT>).The popup menu to the right displays all fonts plus an entry Global. Global is used to specify fonts which should be used to substitute any of the others. Changes to this entry should result in an alert -- the user is about to modify all of his prior changes to the other mappings!
Fonts which should be used as alternatives are selected in the listbox to the left and moved by clicking the Move button. If the user chooses to insert the alternatives in HTML tags, the alternatives for each selected font are added to its name in the FONT tag.
New options for Dynamic Font burning
A URL-prefix to the PFR file can be entered to use in the LINK tag -- if the user chooses to let the tool insert LINK a tag to the parsed document. The protocol part of the URL will be provided by the user: Absolute and relative URLs to the PFR files are possible this way.The creation of PFR files by document contents -- only rendering the characters which use the font, is now supported. The Burn dialog is modified to let the user select this option.
