The Internet and intranets currently offer enormous opportunities
for companies to significantly improve their competitive position
in the market.
The World Wide Web and internal intranet systems empower companies
in many different ways - helping them, for example, to speed up
business processes, shorten production cycle time, make their purchasing
strategies more cost-effective, optimize sales and, last but not
least, develop new forms of customer care. More and more companies
are recognizing the potential of these new media and, as a result,
are helping to provide the new economy with a basis on which successful
"new business" can be built. The future is clear: the number of
websites will continue to increase dramatically in terms of both
content range and e-business solutions.
And yet only a small minority of companies currently possess truly
professional systems. Instead, a wide range of in-house solutions
are being used, some of them practical and others not. If companies
are really serious about using the Web as a sales and information
medium, this requires a significant investment in software for dynamic
content and transaction management.
The following market studies confirm these tendencies:
Internet content will more than double in 2000 and will increase
by a further 60% in 2001 (Source: Forrester Research).
The market for e-commerce software will amount to approximately
12.9 billion US dollars in 2002 (Source: Forrester Research).
