Definition
From a technological perspective is HPS 4 an application
server embedded in Internet standards and compatible with standard
Internet products.
Mode of Functioning
HPS 4 is based on the functionality of (Web) content
management and transaction capabilities, using additional standard
products wherever it is sensible to do so.
The publishing of HTML pages in the Internet (and/or Extranet
or Intranet) is carried out using an Apache webserver - a widely-known
type which has been successfully put to the test under heavy load
conditions. Data storage is handled using ORACLE 8i or IBM DB/2
as the basic database systems. ORACLE 8I as well as IBM DB/2 are
stable systems utilized in most large companies.
Cache and Three-way Split
High Performance enables a new caching-engine, which
is able not to cache only - like usual up to now - total sites,
but also single content-elements intelligent and with flexible
storagetime.
The "active templates" in HPS allow a three-way
split of the elements:
- Content
- Layout
- and Business Logic
Splitting the elements into three parts makes it easy to operate
different websites on the same system based on the same content
and logic (ASP).
On top there's the effect of reducing time and costs even
in the phase of implementation: the three-way Split allows to
work on the layout -design while at the same time programmation
is in process.
Scalability
The carefully-chosen HPS system architecture allows
great flexibility in adapting and scaling the system to the specific
needs of a particular company (see "Function" chart).
