HexWeb XTND - The HTML-Filter

HexWeb XTND is an import / export filter for applications supporting the Claris® XTND system. This filter has been tested with ClarisWorks, Nisus Compact, BB Edit and MacWrite Pro.

The Philosophy

Have you ever tried editing HTML texts including all HTML tags? DONŒT ! Full scale authoring systems for SGML may be very powerful tools for such a task but who wants to give up the coziness of their favorite text editor? And what about the flood of documents which would have to be edited with such a system? HexWeb XTND is an elegant tool which produces presentable results without tedious editing. Instead, it interprets the original document and converts the style tags into HTML .

HexWeb XTNDŒs approach to creating HTML texts or converting existing documents is as simple as it is effective. The various font sizes and headlines of a document are evaluated, text passages using the Monaco or Courier fonts signal ``Leave this passage untouched``, and underlined text passages are interpreted as Hypertext links, the links themselves being specified as footnotes which will be interpreted as link descriptors (HREF).

It is possible to insert genuine HTML instructions into the source document.

It is also possible to export graphics which are saved as individual GIF documents.
References to these files are automatically inserted wherever these graphics used to be.

In order to produce optimal results for any given document, HexWeb XTND displays an export dialog box, which allows you to choose between a number of export options. And last but not least, HexWeb XTND offers automatic title generation and an optional trailer which names the author and refers to the homepage.

The import filter allows you to conveniently integrate downloaded HTML documents into normal documents.
