HexBase Web Database

HexPad, the JAVA Text Editor of HPS.

What is HexBase Publishing System?

The HexBase Publishing System (HPS) is a online editorial and publishing system that allows publishers to manage their editorial work flow efficiently and to leverage on their existing print to create an online publication.

Today, when the Web users demand more actual information, faster information handling is required. A site, where the editors work with static HTML editors, can not be handled as flexible as a site with dynamic content.

HPS allows the whole editorial department to work in a virtual editorial network. No matter where the editor is, he can check his stories into the system using his Netscape Communicator browser, the most powerful Intranet Browser today, as long as he is connected to the Internet. Flexible time-based site update system takes care of the articles to be published in the right minute.

HexPad, The JAVA Text Editor

HexPad is a word processor with a database connection, written completely in JAVA. The applet provides a platform independent, non-html text editing environment for the editorial people, replacing text areas in forms environment. HexPad is not meant to be a layout program, it is just a tool to edit test into a database in a convenient way. The layout is created out of the database using templates.

HexPad can be used cross-platform and can be integrated into most advanced editorial and publishing solutions.

HexPad supports the export of written documents directly into the database HexBase preserving the the text formats and font styles used as a basis for the creation of dynamic HTML documents.

How to use HexPad:

We have tried to make HexPad look and feel similar to a standard text editor. The user does not necessary have to know anything about HTML or JAVA, when using HexPad.

When the HPS page is opened, the Editor Applet is loaded from the server together with other form elements. The editor looks like this:

Please note that HexPad will load classes from the server for the first time. Then write the URL you want to make a link to. It is possible to make HTTP, FTP and MAIL links with HexPad. You have also the possibility to select a target here, in case you are using Frames. After entering the link information, click ok. As you see, the linked word is now highlighted with a blue colour:
