xlr8yourmac Forum:
"I just got my Hercules 3d Prophet II MX card working
in my 1999 G4 AGP 450MHz. Here's what I did:
1. downloaded Apple's driver update.
2. used TomeViewer to extract the flasher app from the GeForce2
MX Tome file.
3. opened the flasher app with a resource editor (Resurrection,
not ResEdit).
4. copied the contents of the NVRM resource (this won't work
with ResEdit, since ResEdit won't copy more than 32kb, and the
ROM image is 64kb).
5. pasted the contents into HexEdit, and saved the file as
NVRM.ROM
6. copied the NVRM.ROM file and the PC nvflash utility to
my PC.
7. installed the 3d Prophet II MX into the AGP slot of my
PC.
8. installed a PCI video card into a PCI slot in my PC and
connected the monitor to the PCI card.
9. booted the PC to the MS-DOS Safe Mode Command Prompt (hold
F8 while booting to get a boot menu).
10. used nvflash to save a copy of the card's ROM (just in
case). nvflash -bdefault.rom
11. used nvflash to flash the card: nvflash -fnvrm.rom -m
12. moved the card to my G4
BTW, Apple System Profiler says this:
Display card Card type: display Card name: NVDA,NVMac Card
model: GeForce2 MX Card ROM #: 1027F Card revision: 161 Card vendor
ID: 10DE With the stock Rage 128 Pro, I got
36.2fps in
Quake 3 on the "high quality" setting. With the GeForce2
MX, I get
57fps. "
