HexWeb CSS Edit 1.0, the
Cascading StyleSheets Plug-In for BBEdit.

Today, when DHTML is getting more and more popular, Cascading StyleSheets and Dynamic Fonts are making a real breakthrough. HexMac Software Systems has now released the commercial Cascading Style Sheets Editor, "HexWeb CSS Edit" as a Plug-In for BBEdit and as a stand-alone Macintosh application.

Check out this sample page using a 4.0 browser. The page is made with CSS Edit using Absolute Positioning. Look at the source to see how CSS classes can be used for the creation of a Web layout. This will reduce the code about 60% compared to a table-based layout and makes your pages faster. The maintenance is easier through the better organized code. Also, check out our time-limited special offer: You can get HexWeb CSS Edit today for only $79!.

The most important part of the application is the CSS Edit Dialog. The application scans the header of the HTML document for STYLE-tags and parses the CSS1 coded style sheets -- building a tree of classes with elements and properties that are used.
With HexWeb CSS Edit you can have features on your Web pages that until now, were only possible in print. Absolute Positioning and 3D Layering free you from the limits of traditional HTML. Images can overlap, text can be on top of other text and images, background images can be used for text objects a.s.o. Text alignment can now also be justified to a block, just like in print applications.

The Cascading Style Sheet Level 1 (CSS1) mechanism provides a powerful way to attach style to HTML documents. The release of CSS1 standard and its first implementation in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 made it real to the Web. Today, the 4:th generation of both browsers support CSS1 standard up to a high level, with some differences, though.

Browser Compatibility Mode

Cascading StyleSheets support is a bit different in different browsers. Therefore, HexWeb CSS Edit has a selector for target browsers, allowing you to create CSS Styles according to CSS1 standard, to use the tags Netscape Navigator4 or Microsoft Explorer 4 are supporting, or to be sure, that your StyleSheets can be run in both 4.0 browsers, you can switch to "Both Browsers Mode".

Powerful CSS Position Editor

CSS Positioning made easy: just drag your position elements, and CSS Edit will create the classes for you.
To make it faster to edit classes for absolute positioning, we have designed a powerful editor, which allows you to generate new position elements by dragging new "boxes" and to scale them, overlap and edit them. After you have drawn the elements you need, you can edit other properties to your classes in the list mode.

Import and Export of local and external Style Sheets

Import of Style Sheets from other documents is supported in HexWeb CSS Edit. This makes possible to edit existing styles and re-use them in other HTML documents. The property list of the main dialog is designed to give the user a good overview of what properties are defined for an element without adding an additional mode to modify their values.

Dreamweaver Compatibility

HexWeb CSS Edit generates code, that is compatible with Dreamweaver, the new DHTML application from Macromedia. You can also open your Dreamweaver pages in HexWeb CSS Edit for finetuning of the CSS functions. This makes perfect synergy between the two products.
